Artist's Comments

Drawn straight in pen then coloured lazily and abused with horrible filters... but one of my mates liked it and asked for a wall paper size, which got shrunk down to this cause I don't like it being bigger than I drew it, but the cropping to get the right ratio made it look better than the original version.

Character is a vague interpretation of Quote from Cave Story (aka Doukutsu Monogatari), a lovely and very very retro freeware platformer. Which belongs to a guy by the name of Pixel, if I remember correctly.

So yeah, rough and lazy but I kinda like it despite it's cheapness and horrible filter abuse. :)

(Just not sure about putting it in my main gallery. XD)

(Actually, sod it, in the main gallery it goes.)

I did indeed, it was a mental rush trying to get them the edited, high res files (cause as you may notice, in the magazine his scarf is green instead of red). They used another one of my Cave Story images on IGN as well. The guys from Nicalis asked me if they could use it cause they really like my stuff, which is all kinds of flattering. :)

that's awesome, how does stuff like that come about? Did you have a website for people to see the work, or did you have to keep pushing artwork to get it to be seen?

I think they were looking for art. I'd just had it here on DA, and they emailed and called me asking to use it.

When you (Quote) 'borrow' the Polar Star, its not even finished! After you get the Spur and go to the Plantation, go back to the Labyrinth Shop (Where you could get the Fireball/Polar Star upgraded to the Snake) and talk to Chaba and he'll give you the Whimsical Star, a neat trinket
To use, charge the Spur to level three max and three small stars surround you and deal minimal damage to enemies, but it does weaken them and it covers your back Helps a lot against Misery and Sue

Yeah I know about Spur. I just didn't think the gun in this looked badass enough to be the Spur. That and I just love the name Polar Star.

Didn't know about the Whimsical Star though, that's ace.

I counter with: Quote's scarf is actually GREEN. I found this out because the guys from Nicalis (who are doing the Wii port) asked to use some of my cave story art, and needed me to recolour his scarf to do it. :)
